The margin is the blank border around the code. Too little is one of the most common reasons a printed code will not scan.

Type a URL, a message, a Wi-Fi credential, a vCard or any text and you get a scannable QR code, generated locally in your browser. The output is a real QR code with correct error correction, not an approximation, so it scans with any phone camera.

The error correction level is the setting most worth understanding. It controls how much of the code can be damaged and still scan: L about 7%, M about 15%, Q about 25%, H about 30%. Higher levels make the pattern denser for the same data. That is the actual tradeoff behind putting a logo in the middle - H is the level that tolerates it, and at H you can cover roughly a quarter of the code and still scan.

Customisation is available where it is safe. Foreground and background colours are free, though you should keep the dark-on-light relationship and check contrast, because a faded code simply will not scan. You can add a logo in the centre with a background plate behind it to preserve the quiet zone. Everything renders on-device, so nothing about the content of your QR code is transmitted anywhere.

QR Code Generator features

All four error correction levels
L, M, Q and H with the actual recovery percentages shown, so you pick deliberately rather than by default.
Content presets
URL, plain text, Wi-Fi credentials, vCard contact, email, SMS and phone, each built to the payload format scanners expect.
Custom colours with contrast warning
Any foreground and background pair, with a live warning when contrast drops below what a scanner can reliably handle.
Logo with quiet zone protection
A centred logo over a background plate, sized and error-corrected so the code still scans.
PNG and SVG export
Raster for the web, vector for print and for logos, at a size you choose.
Margin control
Adjust the quiet zone. Too little margin is one of the most common reasons a printed code will not scan.
Fully offline
Rendering happens in your browser, so nothing about the encoded content is ever sent to a server.

How to use the QR Code Generator

  1. Enter the content

A plain URL, or use the presets for Wi-Fi, vCard, an email address, an SMS or a phone number, which build the correctly formatted payload for you.

  2. Set error correction

L for the smallest code and cleanest look, H if you are adding a logo. Higher levels make the pattern denser, which is why a high-correction code looks busier.

  3. Style it

Pick foreground and background colours and check the contrast, adjust the module size and quiet zone, and optionally add a centred logo.

  4. Download

PNG for screens and documents, SVG for print and for scaling without any loss. For anything physically printed, use SVG or a large PNG and test with a real phone before committing to a full print run.

Frequently asked questions

How big should a QR code be for printing?

The rule of thumb is that the printed code should be at least a tenth of the distance a scanner will be from it. For a poster read from two metres, that is at least 20cm. Export SVG for print so the modules stay sharp, keep the quiet zone, and test with several phone models before a print run.

Why will my customised QR code not scan?

Almost always one of three causes: insufficient contrast between the colours, a logo covering too much of the pattern, or a quiet zone that is too small. Raise the error correction to H before enlarging the logo, and check the contrast warning in the tool.

Should QR codes have rounded corners or dots instead of squares?

It works with modern scanners and looks better, but it is a small risk with older or low-quality camera hardware. For anything you need to be reliable - payment, access control, packaging - keep the square modules.

What does the error correction level actually do?

It adds redundant data to the code so it still reads when part of it is obscured or dirty. L recovers about 7% of the code, M about 15%, Q about 25% and H about 30%. The cost is a denser pattern for the same payload.

Can I make a QR code that links to an app?

Yes. Put the app store URL or a smart-app-banner link in the URL field. There is no special QR feature involved - it is just a URL, but generate it with high error correction if you plan to print on packaging.

Does this tool send my QR code content anywhere?

No. The code is rendered in your browser from what you typed. Nothing is transmitted, which is why you can generate a QR code containing internal or personal information without publishing it.
