Cookie Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-17
This page lists every cookie this site uses. It is shorter than most cookie policies because the list is short: the tools themselves set nothing.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store and send back later. Cookies can be “first party” (set by the site you are visiting) or “third party” (set by another company, such as an advertising network). Many people use the word “cookie” for all of them, and for local storage, which is the related browser feature used below.
Cookies and storage this site sets itself
These are stored in your browser's local storage rather than as cookies, are never transmitted to us, and are removed when you clear your browsing data:
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| toolforge-theme | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme, so the page does not flash the wrong colours on your next visit. | Until you clear browsing data |
| toolforge-cookie-notice | Remembers that you dismissed the cookie notice, so it does not reappear on every page. | Until you clear browsing data |
Neither is a tracking cookie. Neither identifies you, is sent anywhere, or is readable by any other site. If you block storage, the site still works — the theme will follow your system preference instead.
Third-party cookies from advertising
This site is funded by advertising. Google AdSense sets cookies to measure ads and, where you have consented, to personalise them.
- Google AdSense cookies are set by Google. Their exact names and purposes vary by product and are listed by Google itself in its cookie policy.
- Consent cookies are set by Google's certified consent management platform to record your choice, so the site is not asked on every page.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland
In these regions, personalised advertising requires consent. Before personalised ads are served, Google's certified consent management platform — integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework — asks you, and no personalised advertising is served until you agree. Declining does not affect the tools, which work either way.
How to control cookies
You have several options, and you can use more than one:
- Google Ads Settings — control personalised advertising directly: adssettings.google.com
- Industry opt-out — opt out of participating companies: aboutads.info/choices
- Global Privacy Control — send the GPC signal in your browser. We and Google honour it.
- Your browser — every major browser can block or delete cookies and clear local storage. Note that blocking advertising cookies does not affect the tools on this site at all.
For cookie choices in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google provides guidance from the cookiechoices.org initiative.
Cookies we deliberately do not use
- No analytics cookies. We embed no Google Analytics or equivalent.
- No social media pixels or tracking beacons from Facebook, X, LinkedIn or anyone else.
- No fingerprinting, and no cross-site identifiers of our own.
- No cookies set by the tools. Your input never leaves your browser, so nothing about it is stored or measured.
